SDCCD’s WorkAbility III staff include s talented individuals who ensure that students are provided quality services that meet their vocational needs. Gale Barlow and Jenn Cook are trained in ASL and provide vocational services for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Jenn Cook, M.S.
Coordinator

Jenn Cook completed her B.S. degree from the University of Arizona, majoring in Special Education with a Minor in Deaf Studies and an emphasis in Educational Interpreting. She completed her M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling with a Concentration in Deafness, Late-Deafened and Hard-of Hearing from San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2005. In addition, she received her Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) and Supported Employment and Transition Specialist Certificate (SETS) through her masters program. Jenn is currently enrolled in the Post- Employment Training - Administration Programs Serving Individuals who are Deaf, Late-Deafened and Hard of Hearing (PET-D), which will be completed in July 2007. Since moving to San Diego in 2002, Jenn was employed as a School -to- Work Transition Assistant within San Diego City Schools at Madison High School helping students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing with interviewing skills, career exploration and job placement. Previously, Jenn worked at the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind as a Live-In Attendant where she assisted students with everyday activities. Jenn came to the WorkAbility III program in March 2005 as a Vocational Specialist and has been the WorkAbility III Coordinator since September 2006.

Rusty Krumm, M.S.
Vocational Specialist

Rusty Krumm completed his B.A. in Business Administration from Husson College, in Bangor Maine and graduated with a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2000 from SDSU. Rusty has an extensive background ranging from civic appointments to direct service with individuals with disabilities. Prior to returning to graduate school, Rusty worked as a teacher assistant for Edison Elementary. While attending graduate school at SDSU, Rusty worked for the San Diego Housing Commission for 3 years. Rusty went on to work for the Access Center of San Diego for 2 years and then was hired by WorkAbility III as a Vocational Specialist. Aside from his position within the WorkAbility III program, Rusty Krumm was elected by the public to be a member of the City Heights Town Council and held his position from 2002 until 2004. Rusty also volunteers his time at San Diego County Juvenile Hall and holds positions on numerous public and disability-specific committees. Rusty brings a great deal of personal knowledge and experience regarding disability issues, accommodations and accessibility and is highly regarded within the community and SDSU graduate faculty.

Gale Barlow, M.S.
Vocational Specialist

Gale completed her M.A. in Comparative Literature at SDSU and completed her M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling with a Concentration in Deafness, Late-Deafened and Hard-of Hearing from SDSU in 2005. Before working at SDCCD’s WorkAbility III program, Gale worked for a year and one half as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor within the California Department of Rehabilitation. Previously, Gale worked within the San Diego Unified School District, San Diego Mesa College DSPS and Deaf Community Services, Inc. as a job coach, tutor, and volunteer. Gale also has a deep appreciation and talented professional experience within the cross-cultural context of Asian Studies as a lecturer, publisher, marketer, writer and interpreter. Gale is highly proactive and has strong interests in developing programs for individuals who are Deaf and Hard or Hearing. Gale has been working as a Vocational Specialist for WorkAbility III 2004.
